India/Sri Lanka
Stephen’s intended trip to Sri Lanka and South India
May 9 – June 1, 2011
My plan is to return to the men in Sri Lanka whom I have not seen for about 5 years. I arrive there on May 10. I’ll be with pastors and students and may possibly meet them in Mannar in the NW of the island.
I arrive in Mumbai on May 13 with a view to spending time with some of the young men who live there or near there, and with others in Pune, and Nagpur. There’s a little internal flying to do at this stage to avoid long train trips. I’m hoping at this stage as well to visit Union Biblical Seminary in Pune and Providence Evangelical Bible Seminary in Mumbai where some of the men have studied.
I fly into Coimbatore and spend more time with one of the leading students who studies at SAIACS in Bangalore before heading up into the Nilgiri Hills to Coonoor where we plan to have our 18th Studies from May 19-26.
I will be preaching in Pune and Chennai, in Ootycumund and perhaps in other places as well! I hope after the Studies to be able to visit the Shevaroy Hills in the Eastern Ghats, a possible site of a Reformed Seminary. There are men to see in Chennai as well before I leave for Singapore on May 30.
Chris Wright and Langham Partnership have been hugely generous and gifted me 50 copies of his book, The Mission of God’s People. The other book I intend to use is the very recently published Church Planter by Darrin Patrick. Crossways, the publisher has helped me with a welcome discount.
Would you pray? 1. That books would arrive safely at Coonoor. 2. That 50 young men whom we hope will return to the Studies will come with hearts hungry to learn. 3. That Mike Beck, the young pastor of Gracenet, Wellington, would be able to join me. 4. That I will be able to get that visa which was refused me twice over the years, but not recently. ( I have just received this.)
You have encouraged me to continue to return to India over these past twenty years and I am hoping that you will continue to give me your support.
Stephen Turner, March 25, 2011.
